AIGA Boston Presents: EMERGE Virtual Portfolio Reviews

The EMERGE Virtual Portfolio Review is open to all design students at undergraduate/graduate levels and working professionals with 0-5 years of experience. Here’s your chance to:

• Have a seasoned professional look at your portfolio

• Distribute your resume

• Practice your interview skills

• Receive honest feedback about your work

• Connect with people who will give advice

This Year, We're Virtual!

We won't be in person this year due to COVID-19 but this doesn't stop the connections we can help you make. We will match reviewers with a few reviewees to find time within the week to meet virtually on your own. When you're matched you'll communicate with that person to find time and schedule a call or video chat to connect. These Virtual Portfolio reviews will begin on Monday, June 22, and end on Friday, July 17.

Reviewees

This is your opportunity to be partnered with two or three professionals who will review your portfolio. You're welcome to review your resumé and a cover letter, and you can expect professional guidance. This event is designed to model the interview process; so please set up a few minutes early, be prepared, and be mindful of how you present yourself and your work. Professional attire, appropriate for an interview, is recommended.

Reviewers

We depend on you each year. This event only works because of your continued effort in bringing your knowledge to the next generation of Creatives. If you have the capacity to review two to three portfolios, please sign up to be a reviewer today.

How it Works:

We will partner reviewees who want to receive professional guidance with a few reviewers, professionals who provide feedback and actionable advice. Communication will be conducted on a virtual basis through the platform that works best for you, like a video call or phone call.

Expectations:

All we ask is you spend 30 minutes with each reviewee/reviewer. Complete your reviews by Friday, July 17, end of day. Once you are partnered with the other two or three creatives, both the reviewer and the reviewee is responsible for setting up time. You are welcome to continue conversations after the review is completed. Our goal is to empower creatives to be successful and connected!

Reviewees: How to Prepare for Your Virtual Portfolio Review:

• Present 8 to 12 of your best portfolio pieces.

• Arrive at least 5 minutes before your virtual review time if meeting via video conference. Try Zoom, or Google Hangouts!

• Ensure you are wearing professional attire, and have a background that represents you professionally.

• Have your resume, portfolio site or presentation to share for reviewers

• Ensure your laptop/device is charged, or close to a charger.

Fees:

Due to hardship with COVID-19, we are opening this to be free for all this year. We highly encourage underrepresented / POC designers to sign up.

Deadline to Sign Up + Questions You May Have:

The deadline to sign up is July 1st. Please direct any questions to Amy Parker at amy@boston.aiga.org.
