Katherine Small Gallery and AIGA Boston are pleased to present Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Party, a community gathering with bites, drinks, designers, and envelopes in Somerville, MA.
Just weeks ago, Katherine Small Gallery, a boutique graphic design bookstore and gallery, installed Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Envelopes Addressed and Mailed by Type Designers and Notable Graphic Designers—a wondrously fascinating collection of envelopes (and postcards) addressed and mailed between 1931 and 2024 by thirty-six masters of modern type and graphic design.
According to Michael Russem, the show’s curator, these artifacts demonstrate “how the greats approached this most ephemeral problem.” Among the thirty-six artifacts, we can easily count the work of twelve AIGA medalists and eight living Bostonians and Providentians. For that fact alone, this warrants a party.
Please join us on Sunday, April 7th, from 1 to 4 PM at Katherine Small Gallery as we gather and celebrate this cohort of designers who have collectively signed and sealed at the highest levels. And who knows—if you are polite, perhaps you yourself could get something signed by said signers. Mostly, we want people to come and mingle. There will be food, drinks, and things to look at. And it’s free!

ABOUT KATHERINE SMALL GALLERY:
Katherine Small Gallery opened in the Spring of 2018 to encourage affordable collecting as a way for graphic designers and students of design to learn about the history of their field. Anything not formed in nature was designed by someone, and if one collects enough of one type of thing—books, movie tickets, candy wrappers, stamps—the story of their design can be discerned. Or a story can be made up. Either way, this place is about looking closely at things that are usually overlooked.
Every year will feature three to four larger shows about graphic design, typography, and printed ephemera, with smaller monthly exhibits about postage stamps designed by type designers and notable graphic designers. Nothing on display will be for sale. Katherine Small Gallery is like a free private museum of design scholarship meant to appeal to the whims of its founders—and hopefully the community.
In addition to the small and larger exhibits, one will find for sale a growing selection of new, used, and rare books and magazines about graphic design and typography from publishers all over the world.
